The Youth, Hymnody & Arts Development Services works to nurture the next generation—children, adolescents, and youth—by supporting their spiritual formation, moral development, leadership growth, and cultural identity within the Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo tradition.
Guided by directives from the coordinating center, this service develops and implements programs that strengthen Orthodox family life, empower parents, and create supportive environments for raising spiritually grounded, morally upright, and confident young people in the diaspora.
The department also preserves and promotes the Ethiopian Orthodox hymnological and artistic heritage, while providing accessible resources in both English and other languages to help second-generation youth remain connected to the faith, tradition, and cultural identity of the Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo Church.
Services and Programs
Spiritual, Moral, and Leadership Formation
- Develops spiritual, moral, and leadership programs for children, adolescents, and youth and supports their implementation across local centers.
- Implements projects that build spiritual discipline, good character, and moral integrity in the next generation.
- Creates guidance, mentorship, and experience-sharing platforms to help young people navigate challenges and grow steadily in the Orthodox Christian life.
Family and Parent Support
- Strengthens parents’ roles in raising the next generation through organized training, workshops, and family-focused programs.
- Supports Orthodox family education using technology such as television, apps, and digital platforms.
- Helps families teach moral values and faith-based education rooted in traditional Orthodox child-rearing principles.
Sunday School Strengthening
- Develops organized and accessible curricula, lesson plans, and educational materials for Sunday Schools.
- Works with diocesan centers and parishes to expand Sunday Schools in areas where they do not yet exist.
- Assesses the condition and capacity of Sunday Schools and supports their improvement with structured, modern, and exemplary teaching systems.
- Supports experience-sharing programs among Sunday Schools to encourage best practices.
- Promotes the expansion of Sunday School hymn services grounded in Yaredic tradition and Church teaching.
- Collaborates with parish councils and diocesan centers to offer modern tutorial services (academic support) within Sunday Schools.
Hymnody, Arts & Cultural Heritage Development
- Preserves and promotes the traditional Yaredic hymnological heritage through training, resource development, and distribution (books, recordings, digital media, etc.).
- Expands and professionalizes Church-based arts programs—film, literature, music, theatre, and visual arts—rooted in Orthodox teaching.
- Prepares English-accessible hymnody and arts materials for youth raised in the diaspora.
Youth Engagement & Development Platforms
- Creates youth development platforms, leadership pipelines, and community engagement programs.
- Organizes events that reinforce Orthodox identity, moral strength, and spiritual growth.
- Provides culturally meaningful programs accessible in English and multiple languages to include second-generation youth.
